The Process to make Ajni an Inter-Modal Station has been started. For this, NHAI has released two tenders worth 1063.26 crore. One tender is for relocation and the other Tender is for the construction of
Inter-Modal Station. After the construction of Ajni Inter-Modal Station, the residents of the city and the railways will be able to get metro facility, bus, taxi facility from the same place. The Rail Land Development Authority and NHAI signed an MoU for this Inter-Modal Station. Along with this, buildings on the land behind Ajni Railway Station will also be constructed and kept there for office and commercial use.
NHAI has released a tender of 68.88 crore for redevelopment, relocation, structure and other facilities of the existing railway quarters. The second tender has been released for the construction and maintenance of the Inter-Modal Station. This tender has been released for 994.38 crores. Along with this, a bidders meet has also been held on 5 January 2020. The Inter-Modal Station will be ready in 3 years after the tender finals. It is worth mentioning that after the DPR Final of redevelopment work at Nagpur Railway Station, this tender has been released. But Ajni Inter-Modal Station will be ready before the redevelopment of Nagpur Railway Station.
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, and Shipping & Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shri Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for development and maintenance of Inter-Modal Station - IMS at Ajni Railway Station in Nagpur. IMS is a passenger terminal infrastructure which integrates various transportation modes like rail, road, mass rapid transit system (MRTS), bus rapid transit (BRT) and other para-modal transportation modes. Inter-modal stations allow passengers to change transportation modes during transit without leaving the station premises.
The capital cost of this project is Rs. 1588.81 crore out of which cost of development of IMS Nagpur including relocation of Railway Quarters, Structures is Rs. 1288.81 crore, while the cost of improvement of road connectivity to IMS Nagpur is Rs. 300 crore.
